McCravey Health Care Services at Orange Grove Center recently received an award of merit in recognition of their partnership with the Tennessee Department of Health in the 2009 H1N1 Influenza Vaccine Distribution Network.
The center was awarded for its role in the vaccination campaign against the H1N1 pandemic virus. The award is only one of a few awards to be presented across the state.
Under their care, 500 injections were given to individuals served by the center, their families, and Orange Grove employees. Medical staff received an intensive education three months prior to administering the vaccine, and all departments took extra precautions with prevention of the spread of H1N1 and the seasonal flu virus. As a result, very few cases of the flu were reported.
Orange Grove serves approximately 700 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, of which more than 60 persons a day are treated by health care professionals at the center.
