Rick Rader, M.D., Director of the Morton J. Kent Habilitation Center at Orange Grove, was recently nominated by the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry to represent patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities to the upcoming hearings conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in redefining eligibility for “Medically Underserved Populations.”
Dr. Rader’s nomination is of critical importance in having the special needs population qualify for federal designation. This will also allow medical and dental graduates to have their student loans forgiven, if they work in this field, and also provide new federally funded community health care clinics.
Dr. Rader has been working on this legislation for five years. In addition to his nomination, Rader is Editor-in-Chief of the nationally acclaimed Exceptional Parent Magazine, a publication focused on the challenges of parents and professionals supporting individuals with special needs.
Dr. Rader is internationally renowned, and has served in his position at Orange Grove for more than 15 years. He is considered a medical futurist, predicting the future medical problems of people with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
