Buddy Haile honored for years of service to board of directors

Orange Grove Center recently honored outgoing board member, Herbert Haile, with an appreciation breakfast at the Broad Street Grill at the Chattanoogan Hotel.  Haile retired after 13 years of service.

“Buddy,” as he is known, was a champion for Orange Grove, serving on the financial and maintenance committees during his board tenure.  One of the fruits of his labor is the $2 million roofing sitting atop the facility today.

Haile was introduced to the center through fellow board member, the late Jim Goldman.   After his initial visit, he thought, “It is probably the best kept secret in Chattanooga.”

The Notre Dame High School and University of Notre Dame graduate enrolled in ROTC while in college, which led to the Korean War.   He spent two years in the Navy on two ships in the far East.  Later, he returned home to Chattanooga, working for his father’s company, W.C. Teas, as an electrical contractor.  Eventually, he would take over after his father’s passing.  He retired from the company in 2008.

Haile and his wife, Margaret, are parents to three daughters and two sons.  At age 79, he plans to devote time to himself and his family.
