The Orange Grove Center offers music services to all interested service recipients.
A full time music instructor provides a variety of training techniques to assist individuals in acquiring an appreciation for music and to explore talents and interests in singing and musical instruments.
Music is known as the universal language. It provides a soothing and collegial base for learning and healing. The idea of music as a healing influence which could affect health and behavior is as least as old as the writings of Aristotle and Plato. The 20th century discipline began after World War I and World War II when community musicians of all types, both amateur and professional, went to Veterans hospitals around the country to play for the thousands of veterans suffering both physical and emotional trauma from the wars. The patients' notable physical and emotional responses to music led the doctors and nurses to request the hiring of musicians by the hospitals.
Orange Grove is pleased to lead community agencies serving individuals with mental retardation across Tennessee in providing a person centered music service of superior quality. In addition to music services, the Orange Grove Center has always been blessed with interested and talented choral members who love to perform at various venues. Our Chorus group receives many requests for performances. If travel and time restraints are not too great, they will do their best to perform upon request. Interested groups should call (423) 629-1451, ext. 2313, and ask for Monty Parks.
