Monty Parks, Director of Music at
Orange
Grove
Center, recently participated in the coveted 2009
Tennessee
Arts
Academy at
Belmont
University in
Nashville.
The event was planned to provide music educators practical information for teaching and to deepen their understanding of the role of the art, music, and drama/theatre in the lives of teachers and students. It was sponsored by the Arts Education Program of the Tennessee Department of Education.
In its 20th year, the academy has hosted instructional sessions on concepts for excellence in the classroom to teachers throughout the state of
Tennessee. The week began with an overture, or opening convocation, and included content area meetings, classes taught by nationally recognized experts, an academy banquet and reception, and other scheduled academy events.
Parks, who has worked for Orange Grove since November 2006, was also treated to performances by
Tennessee artists, and was offered unlimited resources and networking opportunities with others in the field from across the state.
