The John William Goodlet Memorial Resource Room recently opened to clients, staff and visitors to
Orange
Grove
Center. The room is located in the Supported Living Department.
John was a client of Supported Living, adopting the staff as a second family. The staff, along with his family wanted to honor him with a place for others with disabilities like Alzheimer's, and to educate and train staff on how to care for them. Literature and special items and activities will be on hand for anyone in need.
John was well-known for his love of life and his impersonation of Elvis. In recent years, John slowly drifted from the person everyone knew and loved, due to Alzheimer's. John passed away last August at age 61.
In a message from his family, they said, "We trust this room and its growing resources will provide specialized staff training for the care of residents and their various aging and dementia issues, such as our brother John experienced. We appreciate the collaboration between
Orange
Grove
Center and the Alzheimer's Association, and look forward to their networking with other agencies in
Chattanooga serving this aging population,”
